So it’s been a little bit over a month now, and I’m starting to settle in to the San Diego scene. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the flat out “OMG.” I’m noticing a trend out here. Back home, vendors showed up to events WAY before the event was set to begin. Here, I’m watching vendors walk in the door 5 minutes prior to launch time. Furthermore, we didn’t have hour blocks back home. If you were hired to do something at an event, you were at the event cover to cover. I’ve seen photographers cut out early 3 times already, because clients can book them for 3 hours, just to get certain shots. Very odd to me. A party is a bunch of moments and transitions centered in between good music. The music part is easy. It’s the “MOMENTS” that make an event, and those moments can happen at any point, not just within a window of X & Y. It almost seems forced. What happens than? You can’t force it. You have to let it happen. Food for thought San Diego. Don’t short change yourself on an event that happens once in your life. For the extra money to keep the photographer their for the duration, you may pat yourself on the back later on for making a very wise investment. Especially when grand mom break dances of great aunt Ruth smashes the wedding cake all over her grand son. Priceless! I think their is a commercial out in TV land that mirrors my thoughts. Hummmm!!!!!!!!
Tales From The MC (The First Episode)
September 8th, 2010Eric’s first San Diego Mitzvah!
August 30th, 2010Dear Eric,
Great party on Saturday! Everything Scott and I hoped would occur at Gracie’s Bat Mitzvah did. The Hora was super fun, you did a great job directing everyone on the dance floor. The kids were never bored, you kept them constantly engaged with all the dances, games and great music. We really appreciated the personal attention you paid to Gracie and her brothers. But I think what really set you apart from so many of the other DJs we’ve seen, is you were on the dance floor with the kids, you were constantly interacting with them and there was never a dull point.
Thanks for everything.
Maureen

ABOUT TO MAKE BIG SPLASH IN SAN DIEGO.
July 12th, 2010Bio: Just imported from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Eric is here to take the San Diego market by storm. As on air radio personality in Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Eric has been honored and privileged to acquaint himself with some major names in the music and entertainment industry. He’s had the opportunity to work at Universal Theme Parks in Orlando, singing and dancing in a major musical production, while hosting and emceeing Disney themed weddings on the side. Spending his first 8 years with the biggest name in the bar and bat mitzvah industry, Eric was able to train under the man who started it all, winning his first mobile emcee competition at the age of 16, a record that still stands throughout the continental US today. For the past 7 years, Eric has served as the talent coordinator and lead emcee for one of Philadelphia’s biggest full service social event companies, helping to take a rolodex of 30 novelty and specialty entertainment acts, and turning it into the more than 250 as it sits today. Performing at over 2000 events over the past 15 years, Eric is surely able to oversee and plan your entire affair, from the instant you make the initial inquiry, to the moment that last song fades to black. With the uncanny ability to play both sides of the fence, Eric can be charming and personable to your adult guests one minute, and on the drop of a dime, do a complete 180, getting down to the level of a teenager, chatting about MTV and alternative sports, in the most proper grammar, or out of the box ebonics, the language most teens talk, that some parents just don’t understand. Eric is bringing the east coast party out west, so get ready for something brand new, filled with magical ideas, crazy imagination, and enough Jersey Shore fist pumping to last a lifetime…if that’s your thing!
Are you ready?
Coming In August
July 6th, 20103/26/10 – Bernardo Heights MS Dance
March 28th, 2010Another amazing dance at Bernardo Heights Middle School. The gym was decorated with a 50′s theme and a few of the kids even had poodle skirts on. The most popular songs of the night were “Baby” by Justin Bieber (see video below), “Tik Tok” and “Blah Blah Blah” both by Ke$ha, and “Eenie Meenie” by Sean Kingston & Justin Bieber. There were less kids at this dance than last time, but the ones that were there packed the dance floor the whole time. Along with my co-DJ/MC, I got out on the floor and did the Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle and Soulja Boy with the kids. We even had the kids standing around him in a circle while he showed them how to jerk dance.
Subcontractors Association Event @ Mariott La Jolla
March 22nd, 2010The Subcontractors Association event at the La Jolla Marriott was one for the ages. The theme of the party was “Endless Summer” since many of the guests live in places where the winter months are quite terrible. It was a great way for the guests to end a four-day deluge of meetings and workshops. The event started out as a cocktail event with luau music, but quickly turned into an all out dance party once the drinks started flowing. There wasn’t much in the way of lighting or specific ambiance, but that didn’t stop the guests from having a great time. Country music was the prescription for getting these folks on the dance floor, but mixing in some popular 70′s standards, like Sweet Home Alabama and Shook You All Night Long kept the party going. As the music wound up at 10:00, every guest was still there and wanting just 1 more song; a perfect ending.
Melanie’s Bat Mitzvah@Rancho Bernardo Inn
March 16th, 2010It was an African safari theme at Melanie’s Bat Mitzvah this past Saturday night at Rancho Bernardo Inn. DJ Cameron, party pumper Anna Z and myself arrived to find the room set up with zebra balloons and centerpieces on all tables courtesy of Sherril Kinsler and her wonderful staff at Behind The Scenes. Out on the patio was an airbrush tattoo station, a photo booth provided by Classy Photo Booths and the magical stylings of “Magic” Mike Stilwell.
The night began with a grand entrance by the family followed by the guest of honor, Melanie. We formed a tunnel on each side of the dance floor with the adults on one side and Melanie’s friends on the other. We went directly into the Horah and proceeded into a dance set and play a game of Scramblegories with Melanie and her friends.
As the night went on, Melanie did a great job with her candle lighting ceremony and was the life of the party on the dance floor along with her big sister Gillian and her little sister Vanessa. Below is a highlight video that I put together with photos, audio and video of the evening. DJ Cameron, Anna and myself had a blast and are looking forward to coming back in a few years for the final Belk Family Bat Mitzvah!
